Installation Guide
Prerequisites
- An active BigCommerce store (any plan)
- Store Owner or Administrator access
Steps
- Find the app: Open the BigCommerce App Marketplace and search for “Optimum7 Backup Tool”
- Install: Click Get this app and then Install on the app detail page.
- Authorize: You will be redirected to a BigCommerce OAuth authorization page. Review the requested permissions and click Confirm.
Note: The authorization page must open in a full browser window (not inside the BC iframe). If the page does not load, open it in a new tab. - App loads: After authorization, you are redirected to the Optimum7 Backup Tool dashboard inside your BigCommerce control panel.
- Subscribe: Navigate to Settings > Subscription to choose a plan and activate your subscription. A 14-day free trial is available for new installs.
Quick Start
Creating Your First Backup
- From the dashboard, click New Backup in the sidebar.
- Select the data types you want to back up (Products, Customers, Orders, etc.).
- Click Start Backup. The backup runs in the background.
- Monitor progress on the backup progress page. Each data type runs in parallel — total time equals the slowest type, not the sum.
- When complete, the backup appears in Backups with a status badge.
Browsing Backup Data
- Open a completed backup from the Backups list.
- Click Browse on any data type card.
- Use the search box and pagination to explore records.
- Click Download to export the full dataset as JSON.
Restoring Data (Pro plan)
- Open a completed backup and click Restore.
- Select the data types and target store (production or sandbox).
- Review the confirmation dialog — restoring overwrites existing data. We strongly recommend testing on a sandbox store first.
- Click Start Restore and monitor progress in Restores.
Scheduled Backups
Optimum7 Backup Tool can automatically run backups on a daily, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly schedule.
- Go to Settings > Backup Settings.
- Enable Auto-Backup and set your preferred time, timezone, and frequency.
- Choose whether to back up all data types or a custom selection.
- Click Save Settings.
Automatic backups require an active Plus or Pro subscription.
Frequently Asked Questions
What data types can Optimum7 Backup Tool back up?
Products (including variants, images, and custom fields), Categories, Brands, Customers, Orders, Pages, Blog Posts, Redirects, Inventory, Themes, Price Lists, Coupons, Promotions, Banners, Widgets, and more. You can select which types to include in each backup.
How long does a backup take?
It depends on your store size. All data types run in parallel — total time equals the slowest type. A store with 10,000 products typically completes in 5–10 minutes. Themes may take up to 2 minutes.
Where is my backup data stored?
Backup files are stored in DigitalOcean Spaces (S3-compatible) with private access controls. No backup files are publicly accessible. Downloads use pre-signed URLs that expire after 15 minutes.
Can I restore to a sandbox store?
Yes — Pro plan subscribers can configure a sandbox BigCommerce store in Settings > Connected Store and use it as the restore target. This lets you test restores safely before applying to production.
What happens if a backup gets stuck?
Optimum7 Backup Tool has built-in auto-recovery. The status page polls each running job and automatically retriggers any stalled workers. Most issues resolve within 2 minutes. If a backup remains stuck after 10 minutes, contact support.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. Go to Settings > Subscription and click Manage Billing. You can cancel your subscription from the Stripe Billing Portal. After cancellation, you retain read-only access to your existing backups for 30 days.
Are orders included in restores?
No. Orders are backed up for reference purposes only and cannot be restored through Optimum7 Backup Tool. Restoring orders could cause ID conflicts and financial data integrity issues.
